We play a role in educating society about energy efficiency and solar. Historically, we've also installed solar systems on a large scale, and marketed electric bikes. The cooperative is now working with private sector partners to deliver these services, with the cooperative focus now on special projects and education.
Exceptional value for a limited time - Don't miss out
For some time, the Cooperative has been offering great value solar installations to homes, schools and clubs in NSW and ACT. Solar engineers with BCSE accreditation install all systems in conjunction with experienced electricians.
The Walk Against Warming for 2007 was held Sunday November 11, with dozens of walks planned across the country, and a strong showing by the energy coop, walking from Pyrmont to finish at the start of the bigger walk in the Domain.
A practical workshop on photovoltaic installations was held at Figure 8 with the help of Matt Linney from Solar Horizon and Energy Coop's own registered installers. These workshops are designed to familiarise homeowners, students and interested people with the installation process. Such workshops help homeowners understand solar, and are a good starting point for those considering studying installing at a registered training organisation or university.
On Saturday, the coop participated in the ProjectECHO open forum at Sydney University by providing an expert for the discussion panel.
The project aims to inspire graduates and students to pursue business opportunities in the renewable energy sector. The coop is always looking for ways to give back to the community in an educational capacity

Monday July 30th - SYDNEY| The UNSW Energy Coop, affiliated to the Sydney Energy Cooperative, formally came into being at a meeting held at UNSW, Kensington.
Sydney Energy Coop congratulates the executive Alice, Sam, Chris and Daniel on their election. They are joined by a passionate PR and CASOC team.
The UNSW Energy Coop will help connect students to renewable energy related activities in Sydney, especially the activities of the Sydney Energy Coop.
The Students of Sustainability conference was held at Murdoch University in Perth this year. After a memorable hitch hike across the country, Maurice arrived at the conference and ran a few workshops, including one with Nicky Ison on Energy Cooperatives. The discussion during the workshop ran hot, with topics ranging from setting up decentralised energy systems in the Margaret River and on a Canadian island, starting an energy cooperative in Melbourne from a social centre, DIY solar hot water setups, methane biodigesters and on and on.
There has been a lot of interest recently in the new products coming to market to replace 36W 4ft fluorescent tubes. These have primarily been retrofit kits that allow more advanced T5 tubes to replace T8 ("standard") fluorescent tubes without the need to change the luminaire (the light fitting).
There are a number of considerations when changing tubes. Concerns may include light levels, colour rendering properties, and the colour temperature of the light produced. But the primary concern in making an energy efficient retrofit is saving energy.
Working with
Neco, Sydney Coop members Thomas and Jaga helped turn round the energy performance of the shop by changing legacy T8 fluoro tubes for more efficient T5 tubes using the Save-it-easy and Nelson retrofit kits.
