ACT Feed in Tariff

Information for Residents of the ACT

The ACT government has put into legislation a ‘feed in tariff’ scheme. This means that you will be paid a premium price for solar electricity that you generate from your photovoltaic solar system. Currently the retail price for electricity is approximately 14c/kWh whereas the electricity you produce will be bought from you by your electricity retailer for over 50c/kWh. This premium price will be locked in and unchangeable for 20 years. For every kW of solar panels you install, you can expect approximately $700/year of credit on your bill. This will be in the form of a reduced electricity bill that you have to pay or a credit in cash from your retailer.
The ACT feed in tariff and the Federal $8000 rebate are separate programs and one does not exclude you from the other. The best strategy is to take advantage of the Federal rebate before its program ends in June 2009. Once you have the federal rebate approved you can install your system and then enter an agreement with your electricity retailer to sell your electricity at the premium rate.
Sydney Energy Cooperative offers a range of solar energy systems professionally installed in the ACT area, including smaller systems with capacity to expand (install more panels) in the future.
