Environmental Values

Transport
The Cooperative owns a fleet of bicycles built from recycled parts at a local volunteer community bike workshop. The bicycles are used for personal transport and work bicycles and trailers are used where possible when moving equipment is required.

The Cooperative's van are used only for solar installations, not transport of people. It also makes use of a biodiesel van from a non-profit community arts collective in return for renewable energy consulting.

The Cooperative has a policy of declining invitations to conferences, events or meetings where air is the only travel option.

Electricity
No coal, old or new. The Cooperative runs on 100% accredited Greenpower. Members are urged to purchase only Greenpower.

Waste
Waste is about more than just landfill. Energy, material and people's time is wasted when items are discarded prematurely or used unnecessarily. In addition to its recycled bikes, the Cooperative sources stationery from the student-run Stationery Reuse Centre at UNSW. Waste cardboard from solar modules and inverters have been reused for everything from washing baskets and house moves to furnitures and festival stage props.

Closing the Loop

As well as investing in its employees and sustainable energy operations, the Coop donates a significant portion of its profits to environmental organisations.
